Sanders Whiting’s studio is an environment where singers and actors can take their voice to the next level. As a skilled audition coach and repertoire builder Sanders focuses on vocal freedom, expanding range and stabilising client’s singing technique. He loves encouraging students to explore multiple genres using Estill Voice Training of which he is one of 3 Master Trainers in Western Canada.
His training includes an MFA Theatre (Acting), bachelor degrees in education and classical music, and a diploma in contemporary popular music. He has studied with front-line teachers in the singing and musical theatre industries including internationally acclaimed Anne-Marie Speed (London), Tom Burke (New York), and the president of Estill International, Kim Steinhauer. He also has a strong back ground in Linklater Voice Training and studied with voice science pioneer Richard Miller at the Oberlin Conservatory.
As an actor he has performed across Canada as well as touring internationally. Most recently he was nominated for a 2023 Ovation award for his portrayal of Herr Schultz in Cabaret. Other selected work includes the original cast of the megamusical Lord of the Rings, multiple casts of Forever Plaid, lead roles in both musical and non-musical plays and he originated roles in two plays Canada’s National Arts Centre in Ottawa. He also garnered nominations and an award from Vancouver’s professional Jessie Richardson theatre awards society. In the animation world he has voiced the character of Wimpy in a Popeye TV special with Kathy Bates and Billy West and appeared in tv and film shot in Vancouver.
In addition to running his private singing studio he has coached faculty in voice and presentation skills at Simon Fraser University since 2014. He was an adjunct professor of singing, speech and text in the professional training programs at Capilano University from 2014 to 2021.
He currently teaches dedicated students who are excited about expanding their abilities and artistic expression. He also offers coaching for those seeking the certificate of Estill Figure Proficiency.
He has been a voice and presentation skills coach for faculty at Simon Fraser University since 2014.
